ISSUES Fixed:
=============
The game was/is a RIGHT mess in 3D Vision Automatic. Nvidia should have given a rating of "Poor" or "Not Recommended".
Besides the obvious shadows, a lot of other things don't render properly or render in 2D. Except for the Geometry (pure Mesh models) that renders correct in 3D everything else was busted.
What's more, the game LOVES to generate NEW shaders with every new room and locations and time of day! In order to extract all shaders the whole game needed to be played again (100% Play-through).
Fixed:
- Requires version "Build_610.1" or earlier of the GAME
- Shadows - Pattern by Mike_ar69
- Sun Soft Shadows - Pattern by Mike_ar69
- Tile Lighting System - Pattern by DarkStarSword. THIS WAS A BIG THING TO MAKE IT WORK. SO BIG BIG THANK YOU DSS!!!
- PureHair - Pattern by DarkStarSword
- Reflections - Pattern by Mike_ar69
- Screen Space Reflections - Pattern by Mike_ar69 & DarkStarSword A Big thank you for this one as well DSS!!!
- Decals - Pattern by Mike_ar69
- Tessellation Decals (Snow trails) - Pattern by Mike_ar69
- Multi-layer rendering (Ex: ICE and MULTI-LAYER complex objects) - Pattern by Helifax & Mike_ar69
- Bloom - Fix by Helifax
- Screen Effects - Fix by Helifax
- Lens Flares - Fix by Helifax
- Depth of Field - Fix by Helifax
- God Rays - Fix by Helifax
- Main UI & Secondary UI - Fix by Helifax
- Targeting reticles for Throwable objects (ex: Lamps, bomb, catapult, grappling arrows) - Fix by Helifax
- Correct in-depth Crosshair - Fix by Helifax, based on the technique developed by DarkStarSword
- Bink videos rendered actual game as contextual videos - Fix by Helifax. (Avalanche & Water effects)
- Generating & Extracting ALL the SHADERS in ALL LEVELS and all discoverable locations, finding all the collectibles to generated their shaders AND applying the above fixes - Helifax
(This is where the massive amount of time went into)
- Completely Fixed PureHair Rendering - Big thanks to DarkStarSword for helping with this one and to Helifax for fixing the Shadows & Lighting rendering on the Hair.
BONUS for Surround Users:
- Removed BLACK borders in all in-game rendered cinematics! - Fix by Helifax

Game Issues and not caused by the FIX:
======================================
The game has a couple of rendering bugs that are present with or without a fix.
- In SLI - some of the tessellated snow tracks will flicker. (Side-effect from alternative SLI profile)
- In "Geothermal Valley" - some grass will flicker. (Side-effect from alternative SLI profile)
- SSAO & HBAO+ might look OFF on some geometry at extreme angles. This is a bug that was addressed in game version "Build_623.2".
- Low FPS in 3D Surround Mode. This might be a driver bug as it appears only when 3D Vision is running and Surround is enabled.
Workaround:
- Start the game.
- Select a 1 screen resolution and hit apply.
- After the resolution has changed select Cancel (don't want to keep the settings)
- Game will revert to Surround resolution and the FPS is back to what it should be.
=====================
Recommended settings:
=====================
- Sun Soft Shadows - Must be "ON" or "Very High". High Setting is still broken.
- Depth of Field - Recommended value is "ON". This is used only in cinematics & certain atmospheric locations. Setting it to "Very High" adds to much DOF and looks weird. You can set it to OFF.
- Specular Reflections Quality - All settings are supported. Recommended value is "Very High". (Adds quite a bit of quality to reflections).
- Bloom - Recommended value is "ON".
- Screen Space Reflections. Recommended value is "ON". This was pretty complex to fix. DarkStarSword managed to crack it down and we have it fixed in all the water surfaces. However, due to how Space Screen Reflections work and how they are projected (ray-traced) from a Mono image, they might still look a bit wrong at certain angles. If you find it too disturbing you can disable it.
- PureHair - Recommended value is "OFF" as It slows down the FPS quite massively.
- Rest of the settings are up to you (the user/gamer).
=============================
Selecting the Right GAME VERSION:
=============================
- Requires version "Build_610.1" or earlier of the GAME
- Any other later version will NOT WORK. This is due to the game changing how the shaders are generated.
STEAM Version:
- Select Game and go to Properties.
- Select BETAS tab.
- From the Beta combo-box select the new version.
- Press Close.
====================
NVIDIA Profile Changes:
====================
The game requires a profile change or modification.
I. Editing the profile with Nvidia Inspector:
- Download http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/nvidia-inspector-download.html
- Download the Nvidia Inspector Profile (NIP) file from here: Rise of the Tomb Raider NIP Profile
(It contains the ALTERNATIVE SLI BITS that increase GPU usage to normal values but might cause some flickering!!! If you don't like it revert the flags to the default values.)
- Add the profile using NvInspector.
Quick video of showing how to Import a NIP Profile using NvidiaInspector:
In the end you should have something like this:
- This step IS MANDATORY and is required to fix Tile Lighting, Bloom, DOF and other various rendering problems.
II. Import the whole profile via "Geforce 3D Profile Manager":
- See post number 3: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/919928/3d-vision/rise-of-the-tomb-raider-2016-3d-vision-fix/post/4820215/#4820215
If you are having issues and want to swap the WHOLE profile follow the video:

Installing & Configuring the Fix:
=========================
- Due to the HUGE amount of shaders the game uses, STUTTERING or complete HALTS might appear when the engine is LOADING the shaders and 3DMigoto is SWAPPING the shaders.This will go away after 5-10 seconds.
- The first time you start the game (after a Windows reboot) Loading times will be longer. On a mechanical Laptop HDD (7200 RPM) can take up to 10 minutes !!!
- IT IS recommended to install the game on an SSD and play it from there as explained above.
3D Vision Single Screen:
- Open "d3dx.ini" file
- In this section modify "x=" to any value you want to use for the UI depth.
[Constants]
; UI depth factor
x = 0.5
; Surround = 1, Single Screen = 0
y = 0.0
; DO NOT USE THIS; SEE BELLOW KEY SHORTCUTS
z = 0.0
w = 0.0
3D Vision Surround:
- Open "d3dx.ini" file
- In this section modify "x=" to any value you want to use for the UI depth.
- In this section set "y=1.0" to enable Surround scaling.
[Constants]
; UI depth factor
x = 0.5
; Surround = 1, Single Screen = 0
y = 1.0
; DO NOT USE THIS; SEE BELLOW KEY SHORTCUTS
z = 0.0
w = 0.0
- Scroll down and find the key bindings section and set "w=1.0" for correct crosshair scaling in Surround:
; XBOX controller
[KeyAimining1]
Key = XB_LEFT_TRIGGER
; Single Screen 3D Vision = 0.0; Nvidia 3D Surround = 1.0;
w = 1.0
; DO NOT CHANGE
z = 1.0
type=hold
; Mouse
[KeyAimining2]
Key = VK_RBUTTON
; Single Screen 3D Vision = 0.0; Nvidia 3D Surround = 1.0;
w = 1.0
; DO NOT CHANGE
z = 1.0
type=hold
- Do not modify any of the other constants!!! or the crosshair will be broken.
==============
KNOWN ISSUES:
==============
- In 3D Surround the Avalanche effect is rendered at wrong depth. Press and HOLD "Right Mouse Button" or "Left Trigger XBox controller button" to put it at correct depth during the cinematic.
- In 3D Surround some of the Bink Movies are rendered Mono, but they work perfectly fine in Single Screen. This is due to how the game CENTRES the UI on the middle screen.
- I might have missed a few shaders that I didn't encounter or didn't see them so, there is the possibility of minor objects still not rendering properly in 3D.
- Some color inversion might appear in certain areas illuminated by God-Rays (rare).
- Some lens flares lights are clipped/missing in one eye at certain angles.
-PureHair will massively reduce the FPS. Use the "ON" option if you really want to use it! Above it will simply kill your FPS!
